With the semester coming to an end, I can already feel the stress building up, as I’m sure y’all are too. Throughout the semester, I’ve struggled to keep my sanity and deal with deadlines and overall life, but I have noticed I’ve gotten better at keeping things together during stressful times. There are only a few weeks of class left before the countdown to finals and all chaos breaks out all across campus. Hopefully I’ll be able to share some tips to keep your sanity and make the last few weeks as calm as possible.

I’ve always had a problem with procrastination, and unfortunately I don’t see it ever going away. Honestly, school work has always come easy to me growing up, and I could always bust out an exceptional assignment at the last minute without much planning or preparation. However, college is a completely different story and requires planning, and sometimes pre-planning. Continue reading

Spring is in the air

Our beautiful river is a campus highlight for recreation.

Our beautiful river is a campus highlight for recreation.

Breathe in that crisp, light air provided by the beautiful state of Texas. Spring is officially upon us now, Bobcats, and I can already see the atmosphere around Texas State coming to life. Texas State is always full of life and high energy all year long, but the warm-weathered seasons are what we live for around these parts. It’s time to get those shorts and tanks out of your drawers and soak in the sun.

First off, welcome back, guys! I hope everybody had a safe and fun spring break. I could not believe how lovely the weather was for us, and how beautiful it has been the past couple of days. I’m in love with the sun and warmth of spring and summer, and you would not believe how excited I am to have the weather back on my side. It’s been so apparent that I’ve been embracing it by my conscious decision to sport the cutest shorts every day this week. My sandals even made an appearance a few times. Continue reading

Taco to me

by Victoria Nguyen

Hey y’all. I hope your weekend was what you wanted it to be, and I hope you guys got the rest you need. I know I surely did. I spent the weekend hanging out with my roommate and we genuinely had a blast. After spending the past two days out on the softball field cheering on our girls, a nice slow-paced Sunday is just what the doctor ordered. I slept for a majority of the morning and made my way to church to return to my room and get a little homework done before heading out to a fun event with SACA. If you aren’t familiar with the organization SACA, I would strongly suggest you looking into it because it hosts some amazing events. Today’s “Taco to Me” social was no exception.

We were treated to some free tacos and a night of casual conversation. I enjoyed myself and really put myself out there to try and get to know more people. I am horrible in situations where I feel obligated to talk to complete strangers, but I have noticed that the more I do it, the easier it becomes. I have grown as an individual since coming to college and I just want to continue to branch out in the world. Continue reading

Sensational softball

by Victoria Nguyen

Today was a beautiful and amazingly fun day! I spent the morning wrapped up in my blanket, sprawled out on my bed until late into the morning. The few extra hours of sleep did wonders for my attitude and body alike. I recouped from the taxing week, and was in an incredible mood. The sun was out and my expectations for the day were cheery. Today was a great day for some Texas State Softball.

A great day for watching a game or two!

A great day for watching a game or two!

The 2015 Bobcat softball season kicked off with inspired play in the Hampton Inn & Suites Tournament held at our beloved Bobcat Softball Stadium. Coming from a major baseball/softball family, I was so excited to get back around the game. I played softball throughout my childhood and well into my teenage years. With the conclusion of high school, unfortunately, came the end of my softball career. I loved playing the game and the spirit of competition just surges through me to this very day.

Although my days of strapping on the cleats and clipping in the hair bows are long over, I knew I still had the opportunity to go and support my fellow Bobcats as they swung their bats and scored some runs. I spent the entire day — literally the entire day! — watching the beautiful game of softball and soaking up the available vitamin D. The afternoon started off with an intense game between the University of Pittsburgh and Northern Illinois with the Panthers coming out on top. Continue reading

Things are looking bright

by Victoria Nguyen

It feels so great to be back at school again! I don’t know about all of y’all, but I was missing the hustle and bustle of the college life. The break was great, and I was grateful for the time with my family. However, I am so glad to back at Texas State University. A new semester is upon us and the best time of the year, at least to me, is right around the corner. With the sun coming out and the bees buzzing around, things are looking great!

I just want to wish everybody the best of luck for the semester at hand. I also hope that everything goes as smoothly as possible, and that this semester is better than the last, even if your last semester was fantastic. I know that my semester already started out pretty good, and I know that it can only go uphill from here, which makes me super excited.

Started the year with a new roommate, who is completely perfect for me. I know I am going to develop a friendship and not just a relationship of sharing space. With the spring on its way, I’m so ready to get back outside and soak up the warm weather. I love this part of the year because the weather is nice and there is always so much to do outside. With baseball and softball season starting up in the next couple of weeks, I’m so excited to go and cheer on my fellow Bobcats.

I’ve gotten myself back in the gym and I’m starting to get back into the routine again. I’m ready for all the fun Texas State has to offer in the spring, and I’m ready to finish off my freshman year off strong! Time to go have the times of our lives, BOBCATS!

Back at it!

by Victoria Nguyen

A new year, a new semester, new classes and new faces are finally among us! Welcome back, Bobcats! I just know this semester is going to be full of new and exciting things. We are seasoned pros at this whole college thing now, and this semester is going to be our time to shine! I don’t know about all of you, but I am ready to get back into the swing of things.

I just wanted to welcome everybody back and wish y’all a fun and productive semester. The warm weather is on its way, and before you know it, we will be finishing up our first year of college. Let’s make the most of it and soak up as much as we can. Meet new people, participate in new things and find yourself. I’m ready to break free and enjoy the best time of our lives. What about you?

Sights and sounds

by Victoria Nguyen

I know the days have been stressful and the nights have been long, but I just wanted to follow up with Sights and Sounds just like I promised. It was better than I thought it would ever be and I had a blast. What better way to spend a Saturday night than going to a fun, festive event! The lights were amazing. The centerpiece was a huge Christmas tree of lights. It lit up the night and provided the essential spirit necessary for the function.

Everything from the smell of fried this and sugary that, to the sounds of laughter, to the radiating lights of smiles made the entire event special. This is my first Christmas season away from home, and I was really starting to miss my family. Seeing all the little kids running around and parents walking around just brought a wave of emotions over me. It made me reminisce the times I spent with my family, and excited for the memories I will be making for years to come. Being with people you love and experiencing all the fun things life has to offer is the most important part of the holidays!
