Hey, everybody! Can you believe how fast the time is flying around here? This weekend just put everything in perspective for me. I finally feel settled in, and I am definitely finding myself comfortable with my surroundings. And most importantly, I am having fun. The past couple of weeks have come along and I can honestly say that I have had something exciting to do every week.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to participate in Student Association for Campus Activities‘ (SACA’s) Painting with a Treat event. They brought in some artists from New Braunfels’ Painting with a Twist to guide us through painting a Van Gogh-inspired sailboat. I had a blast trying to connect with my artistic side. We painted, chatted, played some games and just enjoyed ourselves. SACA is thinking about putting on another event like this in the spring and I would recommend everyone to sign up for it.
I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I was very impressed with what I was able to paint with the guidance of trained professionals. No two paintings were alike and I thought it was really cool to see how other people interpreted the directions. Being able to look at everyone’s paintings afterwards was amazing. We all came together and let our creativity fly!
Just last week I also attended another one of SACA’s movie nights. If you guys are interested, follow SACA on Twitter (@SACA_TXSTATE) to find out all of their upcoming events. They always put together some amazing events that just bring all our Bobcats together for a fun time. Their last movie night featured the comedy The Neighbors with Zac Efron and Seth Rogan. The turn-out was outrageous and hearing everybody laughing just made the experience that much more enjoyable. It was really funny when all the fraternity guys came out of their meetings that night because they were just fascinated with the incredible movie night going on. I was asked at least three or four times about how often these movie nights occur. Just for the record, SACA shows a movie about every two weeks or so. I just love coming together and having fun. I was able to meet new people and I especially find fun events like this help me come out of my shell.
This past weekend, my cousin surprised me with a visit. I was really happy to see him and couldn’t believe he made the long drive down from Houston. I was able to catch up with him and have some well-needed family time. We ate a lot this weekend and we made our way to several of the local joints around campus. We stopped off at Chipotle, then had pizza from the famous Gumby’s, which was really delicious, and finally capping off the weekend with tacos from Garcia’s. The food was really good and I would definitely suggest that if anyone hasn’t tried Garcia’s barbacoa tacos to go and grab a few because they are the best. I mean they are just so good!
Having some friends that go to school here, my cousin got together with some of his buddies from high school. Through the little high school reunion that went on, I was able to branch out a little more by meeting new people. We just had a blast with each other, enjoying a few laughs and such. I haven’t had so much fun in quite a while. The crazy thing was that we didn’t do anything! We simply hung out enjoying each other’s company, and that is where I feel the most comfortable. Simplicity is bliss to me and I live for moments like these. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep in touch with these guys and continue to break out of my shell.
I am making my way back to Houston for Halloween with some friends to see my family and honestly have a great time. I hear there are a lot of fun things going on this weekend involving the upcoming holiday. I hope everyone has a blast and remains safe no matter what they decide to do. If you don’t have plans yet, it’s not to late to find something to do. I hope everybody has a good time and I will definitely be posting some fun pictures of me and my family all dressed up next week.
