It’s Wednesday, which means I have only one whole day left in Fort Worth until I move to San Marcos. It feels so weird that I am actually going to college. As I’m sitting here writing this post, I’m looking at my room, which is starting to feel more and more empty. The pile of things I am taking is growing larger every time I look at it. I’ve packed everything I think I will need, which is probably too much because I honestly have no idea what I’m going to need.
On another note, I guess I should probably introduce myself. My name is Nicholas Laughlin and I have the privilege of blogging about my experience as a freshman at Texas State. I am from Fort Worth, Texas, and am planning on majoring in Digital Media and minoring in Political Science. Both of my parents went to Texas State, then Southwest Texas, so I grew up coming to Austin and San Marcos to float the river and visit all of the places they went to when they were students here. I never thought I would follow in their footsteps, but after visiting for Bobcat Day, I realized Texas State seemed like a great fit for me. The first week of school, I will be posting every day to describe my first-week experiences of college. Then throughout the year, I will be posting a few times a month to show how I experience things this year.
The anxiety about leaving is starting to set in. This is a moment I have been looking forward to for a very long time and now that it is here, I almost don’t want it to come. I know that once I get in my car on Friday, which will be filled with more things than will likely fit in my dorm, I will be so ready to start my freshman year. That’s all I have to say for now … back to packing, cleaning and saying my goodbyes to people. I am so excited to see what this year holds! GO BOBCATS!
